It's our great pleasure to invite you to the International Neonatal and Maternal Immunization Symposium (INMIS) which will be held in Antalya, Turkey 26-28 March 2010.

We invite all experts for extensive discussion about recent basic and preclinical studies to increase knowledge of the development-function of the immune system in the neonate and also effects of maternal immunization. Infant mortality worldwide is a continuing problem. This symposium is endorsed by Turkish Pediatric Infectious Disease Society, European Society of Pediatric Infectious Disease (ESPID) and European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (ESCMID).

In order to meet the successful goal of immunizing infants as early in life as possible, greater understanding of the neonatal immune system is necessary. The immune system of the infant is functionally immature and maternal antibodies are transferred late in gestation to the fetus. The role of this maternal antibody in the decreased response of the neonate's own immune system is unclear. Enhanced understanding of the neonatal response to pathogens and the potential for interference by maternal antibody in the function of the neonatal immune system is needed.

The goal of this first international symposium is to increase knowledge of the development and function of the neonatal immune system and to use this knowledge to develop new and more effective vaccine strategies for this age group and also highlighted the potential effect of maternal immunization practice.

Fort his purpose this symposium includes lectures about basic neonatal immunology, early vaccine immunology, vaccine safety, adolescent immunization, maternal immunization including vaccines during pregnancy, HPV vaccines, pneumococcal vaccines, rotavirus vaccines, influenza vaccine, hepatitis vaccine, HiB vaccine, tuberculosis and potential new vaccines (GBS, CMV…). at
